Excavation & site preparation from trees to a ready pad
Stumps out, roots raked, pad cut and rough-graded. We take your lot from wooded to ready for the foundation crew, with no hand-off between contractors.
Building on a wooded lot usually means three or four contractors: a tree company, a clearing crew, an excavator and a grader, each waiting on the last. Goliath does the whole run. We clear it, pull the stumps, rake the roots and prep the site in one continuous job.
That saves you time, coordination headaches and the cost of multiple mobilizations. It also means the crew digging your pad is the same crew that protected the trees you're keeping.
What's included
You need site prep if
- You're building a new home on a wooded or overgrown lot
- You're adding a garage, addition, barn or pole building
- Old stumps and roots are in the way of construction
- Your builder needs a cleared, rough-graded pad
- You want one contractor from clearing through rough grade
- You need sediment control installed before work starts
The arborist advantage
Why certified judgment matters here
Site prep is where trees you meant to keep get killed. Trenching, grade cuts and fill over roots are slow-motion death for a mature tree. Our arborist-led planning sets limits on cuts and fill near keepers before the excavator ever starts.
Arborist consultations →What affects the price
Every property is different, so we price after we see it. These are the factors that move the number:
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Site size & clearing needed | How much has to come out before prep starts. |
| Stumps & roots | Number and size of stumps to be pulled. |
| Soil & rock | Rock and poor soils add time and equipment. |
| Sediment control | Requirements depend on the disturbed area and the plan. |

Excavation & Site Preparation FAQ
Do you handle clearing and site prep together?
Yes. That's the main advantage of working with Goliath: one crew, one estimate, one schedule from trees to rough grade.
Do I need an approved plan before site work?
In Harford County, development that disturbs more than 5,000 square feet must address sediment control, and many projects need an approved plan. Your builder or engineer typically handles the plan; we install what it calls for.
Can you save topsoil for later?
Yes. We strip and stockpile good topsoil so it's available for final grading and landscaping.
